Together with 24 sustainable innovations Snel qualified for Europe’s most prestigious award for cartonboard packaging.  Snel entered the competion with the Re-Fruiter Tray; a packaging produced from 100% recycled cardboard, easy to recycle after use and therefore designed for the circular economy.

The challenge was to develop, and produce, an alternative for plastic trays with pads. An innovative flexible construction of the bottom has been designed, and made possible by a special (patented) die cut profile. Lots of attention was given to the handling and transportation of the trays at the growers, leading to an optimal solution for strawberries, berries and raspberries.

The winners will be announced during a virtual event on October 7th. One of the shortlisted cartons will be the winner of the Public Award. Public voting is open until 30th September.
